Long before the Links Awakening Remaster, I had made my own 2.5D Zelda. I made this in Game Maker back in 2007.I was the kid who was making Zelda clones for years. From around 11 to 18, I spent my afternoons tinkering away at different game engines, mostly Game Maker. Teaching myself how to make games by being inspired by Zelda and attempting my own version. I always wanted to have my own items, levels, story. I, unfortunately, didn't know anyone in person that was interested in Game Development with me, so I was alone in that sense. Haa, we would have been great friends!I want to say my first Game Maker experience was RPG Maker on the Genesis. Zelda was awesome, but I was always making clones of Shining Force XDI dont get to make games, but there is something big coming that would give me significant influence into the creation of several. When I take a moment to think about it I am suddenly 10 again lolWho knew gaming would take over the world and become the basis of the next global currency?We did.Those who beat BattleToads, enjoyed some cake and hit that damn cyclops with a pie.So what's up, let's get this thing made ;D

    That's a wrap! Brainstorm Connection Day 2 is officially over and that was a blast! 😁That was an explosion of information and just the tips I needed. I was able to see some old friends and meet some new friends. One friend I've known for 12 years when we met taking classes at Art Center At Night. There were amazing live demos, lunch, raffle, and the Q&A had great advice. I have so many thoughts I have to think about and process.There were new techniques, software, even a new tablet brand I need to get now. Today's lineup was incredible with James Paick, Norris Lin, Joon Ahn, and Sinix!It was incredible to network, be with the legends, catch up with friends and meet like minded people. This was a really impactful experience for me.     I was the first to get my Xbox Aurora bundle in the office so I rocked the shirt all day 😜 We've been waiting a while for this one. This is to celebrate the partnership between Xbox, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard King.I started at Activision in 2009 as a night shift tester on Wolfenstein. I came back for Vanguard and it's been an incredible journey. It's insane to have my name in the credits of iconic IP such as Crash Bandicoot and Wolf.Now it's jaw dropping to realize that I have a @ Microsoft email 🤣 I get nostalgic and I love the history of these companies and having a part in it has childhood Tim screaming in excitement.#xbox #activision #microsoft #gamedev #qa

    I've been tinkering away on some tech. I'm implementing Universal Scene Description into my game engine. It's a work in progress but I'm excited to share what I'm trying to accomplish here.Informed and inspired by GIS principles and data, I'm building the world of my game dynamically and systematically. I'll be utilizing USD as the file format for so many reasons. the obvious is interoperability, it maintains the whole structure across all DCC. I have World Machine creating a tiled terrain world at scale and controlled by my CDCI pipeline. Exporting tiles of the world with massive amounts of detail and data. For urban areas and dungeons I can use custom attributes to put BSP inside USD! I can have the layers and properties of USD have world states with nondestructive layering. Spline data, roads, alpha maps, river data, plant and clutter points all generated by World Machine in USD and gltf. I can also put BSP in gltf using extensions.In development I can treat my USD like a map file and build my assets in a native format for release. I'll also be working on being able to take my games scene graph and export it to USD to be used in other software and have a complete loop there.     More about Aura Online: I've integrated ChatGPT with my game as a module. I also have a Discord module. A major contention in my development has been around my event systems. There are two kinds of event systems going on here, an Event Driven Architecture where event emitters detect, gather, and transfer events, while event consumers react to these events, and a scheduler that executes Data-Driven Architecture for seasonal events and reoccurring events or otherwise scheduled events. I've been experimenting with message queueing which will ultimately be the solution but I'm working with CRON heavily in this prototype phase. As part of this schedule, I have a Message of the Day broadcasted to the game and Discord every morning at 7 am. This is a call to action, invite players back into the game and also mention anything noteworthy. This is a generative AI point, where I have the option to recycle MoTDs and create novel ones on the fly. Every day a horoscope is generated! I have a whole zodiac and astrology system implemented into my game. This mirrors Earth and also has my lore and zodiacs as part of my game's fantasy story. These zodiacs influence gameplay and other aspects of the world for immersion because this game is magical after all. And every Friday morning I have every guild announce the weekly guild quests, in character. So each guild is ran by a persona bot that acts as the leader of the guild. As part of a phase one, I had this heavily rely on genAI to create these announcements but it also created quests that didn't exist. So in phase two I had made it Data-Driven again! Yay DDA! Where Guild Quests in the DB are announced and those can be scheduled and alternated depending on the calendar. My goal here is to not rely on AI at all, I do want the option for novel grammar so things aren't repetitive. My game, way back in 2003 has used AIML. I've always had chatbot integration in my game. The plan is to continue to automate my game through this dynamic married event system. The game is coming to life with more and more stuff coming online and being automated.     Exciting news! I'm making great progress on Aura Online, with my game engine and platform. I've been working on horizontal scalability and creating vertical slice prototypes. With a flexible client that supports fullscreen toggling and escape dialogs, I've also added launch arguments such as aura.exe --fullscreen true. My client language is Python and I'm using a Python web sockets server interop and a stateless PHP backend. The architecture is Event-Driven with a Model View Controller, Modules, Services, and Entity Component System. With a smart server and dumb client approach, the platform is the heart of the game while the client is a simple viewer for user input and information.     I've upgraded my camera rig to be able to take HDRi's. I got a gimbal head, a new lens to hit a 12mm wide angle, and a color checker added to my arsenal.I'm taking time-lapse panoramas for skyboxes as a part of the capture process for games.
