Before Black Panther 3, Ryan Coogler is all set to impress the viewers with a horror flick, titled Sinners. He will reunite with his Black Panther villain, Michael B. Jordan, who will be playing a dual role in this film. Coogler’s production company Proximity Media is behind the film and it began development a year ago in January 2025.
The film is based on Coogler’s original idea and he also serves as the writer of the project. The film is reportedly a period genre vampire film. Warner Bros. won the bidding war for the distribution rights, beating Sony and Universal to it. The film recently announced a delay in its release date owing to post-production issues.
Sinners cast: The stars of Ryan Coogler’s horror film

Michael B. Jordan is collaborating with Ryan Coogler for his fifth film. They first worked together in the crime thriller Fruitvale Station. Their second collaboration was the Rocky spinoff, Creed, which saw Jordan take on the role of Adonis, Apollo Creed’s son. Jordan’s one of the best performances came in Coogler’s Black Panther, a role he reprised in the sequel as well.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who collaborated with Coogler on Wakanda Forever, handles the cinematography in this film. Ludwig Göransson, another Black Panther collaborator and Oscar winner, is behind the film’s music.
Sinners release date: When will Michael B. Jordan’s film hit theaters?

Sinners is set to hit theaters on April 18, 2025. The film’s old release date was March 7, which was exchanged with that of Robert Pattinson’s Mickey 17. It was announced as part of Warner Bros.’s rescheduled calendar, which also saw The Batman – Part II being moved to October 2027 and Alejandro Iñárritu’s Tom Cruise movie taking its place.

Reports suggest that the lengthier post-production of Coogler’s film is the reason behind it. Sinners was shot entirely on film and the film’s delay is attributed to the scarcity of film stock labs (via Deadline). While it is not a major delay, it puts the film in an entirely different group of competing films.
Its earlier date of March 7 has no major releases. In its current date, the film has to compete with more high-profile films. It will go up against Neon’s Hell of a Summer, The Wedding Banquet, and the animated film Sneaks. It is also booked alongside direct genre competitors like Drop and Al Pacino’s The Ritual.
Moreover, WB’s own A Minecraft Movie is releasing in theaters in April and is expected to hold its place in the charts until Sinners‘ release. It is assumed that Sinners is a safer bet at $90 million for WB in this slot than the $150 million+ Mickey 17.
However, the delay appears not to be a major concern for the film at this point. A Ryan Coogler-Michael B. Jordan collaboration is likely to perform in theaters, regardless of its release slot. Fans can’t wait to see what Coogler has cooked up in the horror genre this time.
Sinners plot: Ryan Coogler’s original script in the horror genre is exciting for fans

According to Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is described to be a period vampire film. It is set in the 1930s Jim Crow-era South. The synopsis of the film shared that Jordan’s twin characters return to their hometown where they would witness some fear-inducing incidents. It read (via IMDb):
Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.
The film’s first trailer was released in September and it was very cryptic at best. The monster or greater evil remains faceless throughout the trailer. Jordan’s character narrates in the trailer, “I’ve been all over this world. I’ve seen men die in ways I ain’t even know was possible. Of all the things that I’ve seen, I ain’t ever seen no demons, no ghosts, no magic … till now.”

Carter, and editor Michael P. Shawver are Coogler’s Black Panther collaborators returning to this film.
A major portion of the filming took place on-location in Louisiana. The filming began on April 13, 2024, and wrapped on July 17, 2024.
