ROMA COME CHICAGO
... aka Bandits in Rome (USA) for me the most dynamic of his unreleased scores.
WINDOWS
even though it is supposed to be not so good I've always been curious about the only directorial effort by Gordon Willis one of America's greatest cinematographers and, of course, the score.
FATMAN AND LITTLEBOY
his one unreleased Roland Joffe score
THRILLING (1965)
this was supposed to have come out on the Cometa label but never did.

...and if you want to expand on something make it ORCA or RED SONJA

...and let me add some of my wishes:

SO FINE (A proper CD would be so fine. There is some great music here and very unique from EM.)

BLOODLINE (without the odd, high-end killing mastering of the original Lp and CD. A Paramount release and now doable.)

DAYS OF HEAVEN (Academy nominated and MIA on CD except for an Lp transferred mess. One of THE great films and scores of its time.)

TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA (another mess on the original CD. Don Siegel himself wanted this nominated for an Academy Award.)

UNTOUCHABLES (expanded and remastered. Nothing but the sequencing is really wrong with the original but done right, this could be a knock-out! We're just talking about a sweet and slightly improved re-issue here. It's an important score and warrants it.)

- and though it won't happen in this country, I'd love to see all the COMETA stuff come out remastered on disc. The Lps are great but new CDs would be most welcome.

hurray - we have an official Morricone 2010 thread at last!!!

Thanks henry and ned.

Cant let the old maestro down, can we.

I'd like to see all what you two list there - esp Two Mules and Bloodline - plus The Hills Run Red done by FSM, expanded, deluxe, with whatever else there is out there, alternate tracks, etc but not in a box set.

and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly CD 2. The expanded CD is truly wonderful but the part 2 would stil be welcome - or some kind of double CD with everything released so far on one CD and someone twisting Morricone's arm to make available all the variations of the ah ee ah ee ah stuff and everything else on the other CD. Then I woke up!

FAT MAN AND LITTLE BOY (I always feel so strange when I type this sitcom-like title)

THE THING - remastered, complete, and combined with the Carpenter cues.

WOLF - I just want that missing end credit cue in quality sound.

RIPLEY'S GAME - still dreaming of locating this seemingly impossible-to-find masterpiece.

THE PALERMO CONNECTION

L'UMANOIDE (expanded)

IL BUONO, IL BRUTTO, IL CATTIVO (complete)

BLOODLINE

SPACE: 1999

actually, that's a little unfair, it offers something the maestro hasnt done before but it is complex and heavy going.

I don't desire any new Morricone releases at the present time, neither expansions nor otherwise, but there are quite a few soundtracks readily available that I would like to check out and/or get hold of: A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, THE BIBLE, FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, LA RESE DEI CONTI, LA CALIFFA, THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY, ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA, CINEMA PARADISO, THE MISSION, DAYS OF HEAVEN, NOVOCENTO, BAARIA and lots, lots more. My knowledge of his output it too limited, but anything melancholic/melodic, and I'm there!

People have gone over this before. Someone even said, they hoped for my sake, there would be a complete Once Upon A Time In The West released. This was after I went off on a cue by cue rant, giving all film cues never released. Yes, never... even though the score (so-called) has been released twice, claiming to be complete... it is not; as played or heard within the film. So, seeing that it will never be released as ‘played within the film...’ I’ve had to fulfill my own dreams ...

This is a great score! In Concerto is as warm a recording as I think I've ever heard and is probably the highest point. The style of the score overall pulls together the Morricone of Frantic, Bugsy & Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!

One little snippet missing from the CD is the piece that Ripley plays on the restored harpsichord - which is for all the world a genuine bit of baroque - Telemann? Pachelbel? Scarlatti? Nope - it's from The Humanoid...

Wish list? Maybe start with a dream list..!

THE GIRL AND THE GENERAL - an excellent score full of variety, great use of Alessandroni's choir, a superb trumpet theme (echos of GB & U), a beautiful love theme with solo violin and choir (briefly with Edda near the end of the movie, but covered by dialogue regrettably), excellent song heard briefly in the movie, a quirky comedic theme.........a great unreleased score from the period most EM fans believe he wrote his best music. Shame the tapes are lost.....

DIABOLIK - again tapes are lost so we have to put up with the bootleg/rip from Laserdisc.

As for Wish list?

WHITE DOG - one of EM's masterpieces, Fuller used the music brilliantly in the movie and on a far higher level than most American movies utilised the maestro's music. Just see the sequence near the end where the dog is at first thought cured, then turns on the black man again - no dialogue, just the powerful images and EM's equally powerful music. The music makes a somber but fascinating listening experience on its own. The bootleg has pretty dreadful sound quality and one of the more powerful version of the main theme is missing.
Maybe now Paramount are releasing some of their recordings this could be a possiblity for FSM?

ARABELLA - OK I have never heard anything from this score, but its the first he wrote for Bolognini.

DEMONS OF ST PETERSBURG - recent unreleased score from Montaldo's final movie, period film that surely EM wrote a good score for?

NOVECENTO - expanded. The LP/CD is a good representation apart from a wonderful alternate version of Tema D'Ada. Apparently the tapes are missing though....

ATTENTI AL BUFONE - Morricone wrote 2 of his best ever scores for Bevilacqua, LA CALIFFA and QUESTA SPECIE D'AMORE. Only about 6 selections on the Cometa LP OPPOSTE EXPERIENZE, but they are excellent. Great overture with bizarre orchestration, voices. Beautiful romantic themes for guitar and harpsichord.

Agree with the other posts, ROMA COME CHICAGO must come surely. FAT MAN AND LITTLE BOY would be good for love them. THRILLING, wonder how much EM wrote for this movie, but the song is great. 2 MULES, not sure there is much music missing from the LP.

The Cometa LP's - a Company in Italy is releasing these with additional music. First release was LA FIDANZATA DEL BERSAGLIERE. MATCHLESS, ATTENTI... and the rest must surely come.

Sure there's more, but thats it for the moment.

Dave

I agree, I would love to have a complete score as it was played in the film, not the version that appeared on the latest expanded cd. I always thought that a film soundtrack was, the music that was heard in the film. I have realised over the years that I was mistaken to think that. I'll just mention my three favorite Morricone moans, "60 Seconds to What?" from FAFDM, "The Trio" from TGTBTU and "Final Duel" from OUATITW.
