What are Bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Scattered around your island, you will often find small unique bugs that can be caught and collected.

Upon catching these bugs, players will unlock them in the new phone app, Critterpedia. This extensive library will showcase every bug and fish that you have encountered and caught, along with a detailed breakdown of their active hours, most common locations, prices, and the seasons / months in which they will appear.

Once the Museum is open on your island, you will also have the ability to donate your catches. While you won't receive any rewards for doing so, your Museum will begin to look pretty neat once it begins to fill up with new finds.

If collecting isn't your thing and you're after some extra cash, bugs can be sold for Bells. While some bugs will be worth more than others, players can use these Bells to purchase furniture and other useful items such as tools.

How to Catch Bugs

See the video above for how you can turn a Mystery Island into a Tarantula (or Scoprion) farming ground to make tons of Bells.

To catch bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons you will firstly need to obtain a net, which can be either crafted through DIY crafting or simply purchased via the shop in Resident Services.

Once you have your bug catching net equipped, begin exploring the area until you come across one of the creepy little critters. Before you go rushing in, it is highly recommended that you approach any insect with a very slow walk, as this will help reduce the chance of the bug running away.

When you're finally close enough, swing your net to catch the bug.
